A revelation finally dawned on me this evening; I haven’t moved the car in over a week. Now I’m not unused to bouts of hermit-dom but I think this one is different. I’ve clearly decided that my car isn’t reliable at the moment and therefore I am avoiding using it. I really don’t have the skills, the tools or the workshop to get it fixed myself and however much use the internet can be for fixing some things I don’t think its second hand advice being applied by a half-assed non-mechanic is a recipe for success.
Therefore as much as it pains me to spend money on the car because I really ought to be thinking about replacing it, I resolve that I will telephone the garage on Monday and book it in. I think it’s more or less due a service too, so I’ll get then to do that too while they have it. Although I’m starting to believe “service” is actually spelled “pick random expensive car part and tell customer it needs replacing”.
To answer the question why aren’t I replacing the car if it needs replacing, well it’s mostly due to apathy and indecision. Before I can buy a new car, I must choose a new car; that process will take a rather long time. I’d like to believe I’m reluctant to buy because I just know my next purchase will be the proverbial “old man’s car”, but the truth is I’ll likely end up with a sensible car quite possibly in metallic beige and be quite happy with it.
