Retro RazorsWednesday 14 October 2009

I rarely get offended, it’s pretty difficult to offend me and that isn’t an open invitation to try. It would be easy to lazily categorise how I feel as offended, but that’s really not accurate. I suppose what I am is irritated. I’m irritated by Gillette. Not by their razors, which up until recently I have regarded as perfectly adequate for the task of removing the unwanted hair from my face.

However their recent advertising campaign featuring a bunch of very smug looking, something to do with the enormous sums they’re being paid I suspect, sportsmen knocking Gillette razors from the hands of “customers”. Now it might appear odd that they appear to be trying to dissuade consumers from using their product, but what I think they’re actually doing is suggesting consumers who’ve failed to “upgrade” to the latest model of multi-bladed razor are either simpletons or luddites.

Well I like to think I’m neither, and so to prove that very point and by extension financially punish Gillette I shall switch to a safety razor that can be sharpened.
